Who we are
VIP Trains is a free live departure board for UK trains, run as a small independent project. This notice explains what happens to your personal data when you use the site. If you have questions, please use the contact form.
What we collect and why we use it
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Contact form: the name, email address, and message you choose to send. | To read and reply to your message. |
| Rate limiting: your IP address, kept briefly (for about 10 minutes) in the memory of our data proxy. It is not stored or logged. | To keep the contact form working (spam protection). |
| Theme preference: stored only in your own browser (localStorage) and never sent to us. | To remember your chosen colour theme on your device. |
| Calling-points history: when you open a service’s calling points, it is remembered in your own browser (localStorage) for two weeks. It never leaves your device. | To let you revisit recently viewed calling-points pages. |
We do not use cookies, analytics, tracking, or advertising.
Legal basis
Under UK GDPR we process contact-form data with your consent (you choose to send it), and rate-limiting IP data under the legitimate interest of keeping the site secure.
Who we share it with
- Resend and Google (Gmail): to deliver your message to our inbox.
- Google Fonts: your browser loads fonts from Google, which sees your IP address.
- Cloudflare: edge infrastructure for the live data proxy.
We never sell your data and never use it for marketing.
Retention
- Messages stay in our inbox until we delete them.
- Rate-limiting IPs are forgotten after about 10 minutes.
- The theme preference stays on your device until you clear it.
- Calling-points history is kept on your device for two weeks, then removed automatically; you can also clear it any time from the History page.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, use the contact form. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13.
